Bellamy decides to leave Ohio State program

Adam Bellamy has left the Ohio State football program for personal reasons, a team spokesperson confirmed on Friday.

A redshirt junior from Aurora, Ohio, Bellamy entered the 2012 fall camp listed as one of the Buckeyes' starting defensive ends. He practiced with the Ohio State second-team defense on Monday, Aug. 6, but was not on the field during practice on the following day. Sophomore defensive lineman Michael Bennett practiced with the first-team defense in the strong side defensive end spot that Bellamy was expected to start at.

Listed at 6-foot-4, 293-pounds, Bellamy possessed the ability to play both inside and outside on the the Buckeyes' defensive line. Appearing in all 26 of Ohio State's games in the past two seasons, he recorded a total of 36 tackles- four of which came for a loss- and one sack.

As a redshirt junior, Bellamy will have just one year of eligibility remaining should he choose to transfer to another Division I FBS program.

Despite having also lost redshirt freshman defensive lineman Kenny Hayes, who also left the program earlier this summer, depth is not expected to be an issue on the Ohio State defensive line this season.

Along with Bennett, current starters John Simon, Garrett Goebel, and Johnathan Hankins each saw significant playing time in 2011. First-year Ohio State coach Urban Meyer has also brought in one of the nation's top defensive line recruiting classes this fall, which included Noah Spence, [b]Adolphus Washington[/db], Se'von Pittman, and Tommy Schutt, and has mentioned sophomore defensive lineman Joel Hale as a player who has caught his eye through the first week of fall camp.
