Hudson eyes Irish visit

Junior wide receiver Travon Hudson has never visited Notre Dame. He expects to change that soon.

The 6-foot-4, 205-pounder from Colerain High School in Cincinnati, Ohio has a strong tie to the Irish in sophomore linebacker Jarrett Grace. The two played together during Grace’s senior season.

“He’s like a big brother to me,” said Hudson. “We played together my freshman year when I was starting varsity and then in basketball we grew closer.”

The two remain close friends and Hudson hopes to see Grace play a game in an Irish uniform.

“I want to visit Purdue, Michigan, West Virginia and hopefully Notre Dame,” he said.

Purdue already has offered Hudson a scholarship. Ohio State, Cincinnati, UCLA, Georgia, Georgia Tech and Michigan continue to show interest.

Notre Dame assistant coach Mike Elston reaches out to Hudson about once a week.

“He says to keep working hard on the field and in the classroom,” Hudson said.

Hudson already has visited Ohio State and Louisville.

College coaches project Hudson to be a threat in the passing game at the next level. He primarily blocks in Colerain’s power rushing offense.

Through nine games he has just one catch, but it went for a 38-yard touchdown.

“I’m playing good,” he said. “I’m not the type of player to worry about his stats. I play for my teammates and to win.”

Hudson uses his size to dominate would-be tacklers.

“It makes it easier to bully people on the field,” he said.

His size isn’t his only advantage. He runs the 40-yard dash in about 4.5 seconds and loves to mix it up on the field.

“I’m fast, aggressive and I go get the ball,” he said. “I block well, too.”

Colerain is 9-0 on the year and in position to earn the top seed in the playoffs, which begin next weekend.
