All-league honors galore for Badger State products

Here are some news and notes as WisconsinHigh.com takes a trip around Midwest college campuses to see what Badger State products are up to:

Women's basketball
Six-foot-two-inch sophomore Anika Whiting of Concordia-St. Paul was named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference player of the year after finishing the league campaign ranked second in scoring (18.0), fifth in field-goal percentage (53.4 percent), sixth in blocked shots (1.09) and 12th in rebounding (7.2) while leading the Golden Bears to the NSIC overall and South Division regular season titles.

The Ashland (Wis.) High School graduate had scored at least nine points in every game heading into action March 8, topping 15 points and five rebounds 22 times. She surpassed the 20-point plateau 10 times and registered seven double-doubles. She poured in a career-high 29 points in a December game and had 28 points in a home win over Minnesota State in January.

Minnesota State-Mankato junior Ali Wilkinson, a former standout at Wisconsin Heights (Wis.) High School, also made the first unit. Wilkinson was the team's leading scorer at 17.4 ppg heading into Saturday's league tourney finale. She was hitting 57 percent of her field goals and better than 85 percent from the charity stripe while also topping the Mavericks with 7.9 rebounds per outing.

Former Marshfield High School athlete Katie Wolff was named to the NSIC second team after finishing one of the finest seasons in Winona State women's basketball history.

The senior will graduate as the only player in Warriors' annals to record 1,000 points, 200 three-pointers, 400 assists and 150 steals in their career. Wolff, who also made the NSIC second team as a junior, tied her career high with 27 points Friday night in Winona State's league tournament semifinal contest.

Wolff also tied her career high with seven three-pointers, giving her 242, the second-most in program history. Wolff averaged 12 points and 3.7 assists per game this season while shooting 82 percent from the free-throw line and 42 percent from three-point range.

Eau Claire North graduate Sam Price, a junior guard at St. Cloud State, also earned second-team honors. She finished second on the team in scoring at 13.7 ppg as SCSU finished 19-9. Price topped Huskies' starters from three-point range (37.7 percent) and in free throws (93.3), making 97 of 104 attempts.

Men's basketball
Minnesota State-Mankato senior Jarvis Williams made the NSIC's first team, adding league honors for best defender and top newcomer.

The Milwaukee Bradley Tech graduate - who came to Mankato via Kirkwood Community College and UW-Green Bay - currently leads the Mavericks in scoring at 14.1 ppg. He also is averaging 5.5 rebounds and had led MSU in scoring 13 times while reaching double digits 20 times.

Seventh-ranked Minnesota State was 24-5 heading into Saturday's league tournament championship matchup against Bemidji State.

Women's track and field
Wausau West High School graduate Alissa Rausch placed seventh in the shot put Friday to give Winona State University its second All-American in as many days at the NCAA Division II Track and Field Championships in Birmingham, Ala.

Rausch heaved the shot 47-1½ (14.36 meters), earning her All-American status in the event for a second consecutive year. Rausch won the event at the recent league indoor championships, also for a second season in a row.

Warriors teammate Megan Elliott, a Marathon High School alumnus, also gained All-American status at the national meet, placing seventh in the weight throw Thursday.
