Blackmon tells UK no, chooses Indiana

In one of the strangest recruitments in an already strange 2014 class, five-star guard James Blackmon spurned Kentucky on Thursday, instead choosing to re-commit to Indiana.

During a live broadcast on ESPNU from a television station in Indianapolis, Blackmon committed to Indiana for a second time, turning down Kentucky and Michigan as well as Kansas and Michigan State.

Rumors had attached the Marian (Ind.) product to Kentucky for the last few weeks, but some last-minute information that leaked out on Thursday morning suggested that Blackmon had made a change and was going to return to Indiana.

As an alumnus of the program, Blackmon's father, James Sr., was also thought to be instrumental in luring his son toward the Big Blue. However, a visit last weekend to Bloomington, Ind., looks to have been the turning point for the shooting guard, pushing him back towards the Hoosiers.

The 6-foot-3 guard had previously committed to the Hoosiers during his freshman year of high school, but re-opened his recruitment in August to consider some other schools.

Blackmon making three trips to Lexington, including an official visit for Big Blue Madness.

Blackmon gives Indiana its second top 50 commit in the class of 2014 and first five-star pledge, as the sharpshooting combo guard will be joined by scoring point guard Robert Johnson out of Virginia.

For Kentucky, the loss of Blackmon is offset somewhat by the Thursday commitment of four-star wing Devin Booker.

With Booker in the fold for next season, as well as four-star point guard Tyler Ulis and five-star post Karl Towns, the Wildcats have assembled a strong three-man class entering the fall signing period, which begins in two weeks.
