Antonio Morrison suffers season-ending injury
Sophomore linebacker Antonio Morrison suffered a torn meniscus during Saturday's 34-17 loss to Vanderbilt and will miss the remainder of the season.
Morrison reportedly suffered the injury early in Saturday's game but never left due to injury. He went on to record 10 tackles, a team-high on the day. He leads the Gators in tackles this season with 56 and recorded his first tackle for loss of the season against the Commodores.
"Very disappointed for him," UF coach Will Muschamp said.
The injury forces a shuffle at linebacker. Starting weakside linebacker Michael Taylor moves back to his more natural position starting in Morrison's spot. Freshman linebacker Jarrad Davis, who has starred on special teams and played occasionally on defense, will start at weakside linebacker moving forward.
"Jarrad Davis is a guy that we've been very pleased with. He's a young player that's going to be a very good player here," Muschamp said. "He's played outstanding on special teams, and when he's had his opportunities at linebacker he's played well. So he'll play well."
The injury is the 10th season-ending injury of the season for the Gators and the second in the past week. Other season-ending injuries are: Quarterback Jeff Driskel (leg), wide receiver Andre Debose (ACL), right tackle Chaz Green (shoulder), defensive back Nick Washington (shoulder), linebacker Matt Rolin (ACL), linebacker Jeremi Powell (ACL), running back Matt Jones (meniscus), defensive tackle Dominique Easley (ACL) and offensive lineman Tyler Moore (elbow).
Morrison becomes the seventh starter out for the season.
Left tackle D.J. Humphries, who tore the medial collateral ligament (MCL) in his right knee, is listed as doubtful for Saturday's game. Muschamp expects him to return at some point this season.
Cornerback Marcus Roberson (ankle) is expected out of practice for Monday and Tuesday. Wide receiver Solomon Patton left Saturday's game with a knee injury but is "fine" and will practice Monday.
One coming back: It has been in question whether or not Debose would return for what would be a sixth year of eligibility after suffering an ACL injury during fall camp. Muschamp quieted that doubt Monday.
"Yeah, he's coming back," Muschamp said.
