Instant Analysis: Gators ease past Bulldogs

No. 7 Florida (14-2, 3-0 Southeastern Conference) was challenged about as much Tuesday night as most who follow college basketball would have expected. The Gators cruised past the Georgia Bulldogs (8-7, 2-1 SEC) 72-50 at the O'Connell Center. Instant Analysis takes a look.

IT WAS OVER WHEN: It was difficult to take the game seriously after the Gators went on a 26-4 first-half run that put padding between the two teams that would never be removed. Forward Will Yeguete helped put it together, leading Florida in scoring in the first half and finishing with a season-high 12 points to go with six rebounds.

HE STOLE THE SHOW: Aside from one cold stretch, Michael Frazier II put on the kind of 3-point shooting show Gators fans have come to expect from him. Frazier had a career-high 21 points thanks in part to five 3-point baskets. He also notched four rebounds and two assists.

THE STAT DOESN'T LIE: Georgia came to town with the reigning SEC Player of the Week in sophomore guard Charles Mann. With an aggressive press and suffocating defense, Florida made Mann an afterthought. He attempted just seven shots, made three of them and finished with eight points compared to five turnovers.

WHAT A PLAY: Frazier took a pass from DeVon Walker and sunk a shot from beyond the arc. He did the same thing 32 seconds later. The shots were a defining part of a 16-3 run that allowed the Gators to further break the game open in the second half.

THE BOTTOM LINE: After a surprising 2-0 start to conference play, Georgia ran into a wall in the form of what continues to look like the SEC's best team. The Gators held the Bulldogs to 33.3 percent shooting and forced 15 turnovers. Despite a second half that included some slow spots for Florida, Billy Donovan's team cruised and the game was never in doubt. All this came without the services of leading scorer Casey Prather for the second straight game. The Gators have now won 25 consecutive home games, a new school record.
