Instant Analysis: Gators pull away late

Missouri (16-6, 4-5 Southeastern Conference) came to Gainesville with expectations of giving the No. 3 team in college basketball more of a challenge than it has seen recently. Mission accomplished, upset victory not so much. Florida (20-2, 9-0 SEC) fought off the Tigers for a 68-58 victory. Instant Analysis takes a look.

IT WAS OVER WHEN: After a steal by Scottie Wilbekin at 4:22 in the second half, the ball was moved ahead to Patric Young, who gave a couple post moves and hit a layup. At 4:10, Florida had its first double-digit lead of the game and cruised to victory after 36 minutes of grind.

HE STOLE THE SHOW: If the award was given out by applause, then it would be the debuting Chris Walker in a runaway. It's not, and Walker played just seven minutes. Wilbekin played like a true point guard - 19 points, four assists - and did fairly well against SEC-leading scorer Jabari Brown defensively, who went 5 of 12 for 15 points.

THE STAT DOESN'T LIE: One of these days, Florida is going to dig itself a first-half hole it can't find its way out of because of an offense that has a knack for starting slow. Tuesday wasn't that day. The Gators went 1 for 11 from 3-point range in the first half and turned the ball over six times. But when they needed separation in the second half, they looked to Michael Frazier II despite his 1 for 7 start. Frazier made three consecutive 3s late to open up the game.

WHAT A PLAY: Kasey Hill and Walker got to re-live their AAU days twice during Walker's collegiate debut. The (somewhat ironic) star of the night's first two college baskets came on alley-oop lobs from Hill. The second tied the game at 23 late in the first half. The O'Connell Center exploded with noise for both plays, and "Sportscenter" quickly took notice on Twitter.

THE BOTTOM LINE: Tuesday's game was - and should have been - a humbling experience for Florida players and fans. The night was treated as "Chris Walker Night" as if the idea of defeating Missouri was an afterthought. Sporting one of the most potent offenses in the SEC, the Tigers came in under-performing in conference play but showed up enough against the Gators to make things extremely interesting until the Gators' talent became too much. Florida had a few periods of putrid offensive play and gave up more open 3s than Billy Donovan cares for. In the end, it's 28 consecutive home victories and the 14th straight overall. But this one took some work.

UP NEXT: Florida hosts Alabama (9-12, 3-5 SEC) Saturday at noon.
