Instant Analysis: Florida wins 17th straight game

Rupp Arena showed no mercy, but No. 3 Florida (23-2, 12-0 Southeastern Conference) reversed a trend that had resulted in six consecutive road losses against No. 14 Kentucky (19-6, 9-3 SEC). The Gators battled and pulled out a 69-59 win, tying a school record with their 17th consecutive victory. Instant Analysis takes a look.

IT WAS OVER WHEN: Scottie Wilbekin's two made free throws with 2:13 remaining gave the Gators a sevon-point lead they would never give up.

HE STOLE THE SHOW: No one was better than Wilbekin when the game was on the line. Casey Prather owned the first half, but it was Wilbekin who took the night's fate in his own hands when the Gators trailed by seven late. He finished with 23 points, setting a career-high for the third time in his last four games, to go along with two assists and three rebounds. He closed the game out by making 11 of his 12 free throws.

THE STAT DOESN'T LIE: You've read this story before. Tonight, it just happened to come on a bigger stage. Florida has struggled shooting the ball in the first half most of the season and Saturday was no different. The Gators shot 33 percent from the field in the first half, including 11 percent from beyond the arc. That changed drastically in the second half. Florida shot 55 percent in the second half.

WHAT A PLAY: Wilbekin made the strip on the defensive end and headed straight for the basket with a defender alongside him and Prather trailing behind. Wilbekin dished a nifty behind-the-back pass to Prather who closed it off with a lay-up. Showtime Gators.

THE BOTTOM LINE: Once again, Florida proved it can win in spite of its shaky outside shooting. The Gators opened 1 for 11 from beyond the arc, including 1 of 9 in the first half. Kentucky had seen Florida's early 3-point struggles in previous games and challenged the Gators to take deep chances while pressuring them inside. Billy Donovan's team weathered the storm and shot 54.3 percent from inside the arc.

UP NEXT: Florida comes home after a two-game road trip to host Auburn (11-11, 3-8 SEC) Wednesday night at 7.
