Instant Analysis: Florida blows past LSU

This one didn't leave too many grey hairs. No. 1 Florida (27-2, 16-0 Southeastern Conference) defeated LSU (17-11, 8-8 SEC) 79-61 Saturday inside a sold-out O'Connell Center. Instant Analysis takes a look.

IT WAS OVER WHEN: Pick a moment. After winning their last three games by a combined 12 points, the Gators broke out the scalpel and went to work on a helpless patient. Florida took a 24-14 lead with 7:49 remaining in the first half and led by double digits for the game's remaining 27 minutes and 49 seconds.

HE STOLE THE SHOW: Pick a player. Florida's most impressive offensive day of the season saw four players land in double figures and six players score at least six points. Dorian Finney-Smith carried his momentum over from the Vanderbilt game and finished with 16. Michael Frazier II went 4 for 6 from beyond the arc. What ankle? Casey Prather had 14 points. It was the kind of day that reminds you how complete the Gators are.

THE STAT DOESN'T LIE: Florida's 13 shots made from beyond the arc were a season-high., surpassing the 12 made against Ole Miss last Saturday. The Gators went to the half having made 9 of 14 (or 64.3 percent) from 3-point range and finished at 56.5 percent. The knock on Florida all season has been consistency at the offensive end, but it finished Saturday shooting 57.4 percent from the field. LSU came in allowing 71.9 points per game, second-worst in the conference.

WHAT A PLAY: Despite the uneventful start to his career, few things still get the O'Dome rocking like a well-timed play from freshman forward Chris Walker. LSU freshman and shot-block specialist Jordan Mickey got an emphatic taste of his own medicine when Walker swatted his shot with 16:53 left in the second half. After an ensuing missed 3-pointer by the Tigers, Dorian Finney-Smith cashed in with a three at the other end. Walker played a career- high 14 minutes and also pulled down six rebounds.

THE BOTTOM LINE: Friday, Billy Donovan discussed concerns about his team's ability to stretch average leads into insurmountable leads. Saturday, his team showed he might not have quite so much to worry about - though he's unlikely to admit that. The Gators balanced defensive dominance with offensive spurts. LSU turned the ball over 15 times compared to 12 assists despite having the SEC leader in assist-turnover ratio at point guard. Florida has now won 31 consecutive home games and 21 straight overall.

UP NEXT: Florida will be in South Carolina Tuesday night to take on the Gamecocks (10-18, 3-12) at 7 ET.
