Five to Follow: Receivers

The 2015 recruiting cycle is in full swing and Florida currently sits with six public commitments. The next big event on the calendar as far as prospects are concerned is the spring evaluation period, which runs mid April through the end of May. This week Inside the Gators will unveil a position-by-position look at the top pre-spring targets in our Five to Follow series.

Up today are the pass catchers.

In players such as Ahmad Fulwood, Demarcus Robinson and Chris Thompson, Florida has some young, though unproven, talent at the wide receiver position. How players such as signees Ryan Sousa and C.J. Worton as well as redshirt freshman Alvin Bailey develop this coming season will determine how big a need wide out is this recruiting cycle.

Here are five pre-spring top tier prospects to watch at the position.

Inside the Gators' pre-spring top five lists are based on national ranking and of course whether or not Florida is showing interest at this time. One player having an offer this early doesn't necessarily mean he will be a higher priority throughout the process. Therefore it doesn't mean he will be rated higher on our list. What you see here is solely the opinion of the staff of Inside the Gators and does not represent the opinion of the University of Florida or anyone associated with the Gator program.

Miles Boykin | New Lennox (Ill.) Providence Catholic | 6-foot-3, 212-pounds

What was Said: "Florida I definitely want to check out," Boykin said. "I heard it is beautiful down there, so when we go to the IMG National Championships [in June] me and my mom are going to visit there."

Related: Boykin planning trips

Competition: Illinois, Michigan State, Notre Dame, and Ohio State.

The Skinny: The Gators are one of the most recent schools to extend this Rivals250 member a scholarship. They are looking at him as an H-back and a tight end and would like to use him in many different ways. The Gators will likely be sending coaches by his high school this spring before he makes his way to the sunshine state this summer for a visit to Gainesville.

Deon Cain | Tampa (Fla.) Tampa Bay Tech | 6-foot-1, 190-pounds

What was Said: "Florida is a school I have high interest in," said Cain. "I am starting to get more comfortable around them and that makes me more interested. I am starting to see more of their offense so that was a big thing and getting to meet the coaches. My parents getting to meet the coaches were a big thing too."

Related: Four-star becoming more comfortable with Florida

Competition: Clemson, Florida State, Georgia, Miami, and Tennessee.

The Skinny: Early on Cain was a heavy Florida State lean but has since become more open after taking a few other visits to other campuses. Florida is very high on this Rivals250 athlete and is very active in recruiting him. On his most recent visit to Gainesville Cain's mother came along and loves the academic side of UF.

George Campbell | Tarpon Springs (Fla.) East Lake | 6-foot-3, 183-pounds

What was Said: "There really isn't a school standing at all with them (Florida or Florida State) or any school right now," explained Campbell. "They are both school's I am looking at like all the others right now."

Related: Five-star visits instate rivals

Competition: Clemson, Florida State, and Michigan.

The Skinny: Since backing off his early pledge to the Wolverines the five star wide out has taken his recruiting process very slow. Campbell has visited Gainesville many times in the past and will have Florida high on his list of top schools when he gets around to making one. Campbell isn't planning to make a commitment until the Under Armour All-American game next year so Florida will have a fight on their hands for the next nine months.

Derrick Dillon | Franklinton (La.) Pine | 5-foot-11, 175-pounds

What was Said: "They were saying they like how when I get the ball in space and when I catch it and get the ball in my hands I can do different things," Dillon said. "I can stick my foot in the ground and get up field and I have top speed. Then they were like they would like to see me do a little wildcat quarterback and different things like that."

Related: Dillon picking up offers

Competition: Florida State, Texas, LSU, and Texas A&M.

The Skinny: Early on Florida is looking like the team to beat, we'll see if that holds true if/when LSU gets on board with an offer. The three star athlete has visited Gainesville twice this spring and is very interested in what the Gators have to say. Florida is looking at Dillon on the offensive side of the ball playing in the slot and have Louisiana area recruiter Derek Lewis all over him.

Preston Williams | Hampton (Ga.) Lovejoy | 6-foot-4, 180-pounds

What was Said: "They told me they want me and they think I can help their offense a whole lot," explained Williams of his talks with the UF coaches. "They are going to spread the ball around and they want to get me the ball because of my size and speed."

Related: Williams committed, but looking at others

Competition: Auburn, Georgia, and Tennessee.

The Skinny: At this time Williams says he is a solid commitment to Tennessee but he is still openly taking visits and shopping around. The Gators hosted Williams on campus earlier this spring and impressed him. Florida sits in Williams top four along with Auburn, Georgia, and Tennessee. The Gators look to stay in contact with this Rivals250 pass catcher all the way until the very end in hopes of chipping away the Volunteers grip they have on him.
