Frankie Williams Charity Classic Game
GREENBURG, NY - On Thursday evening, Frenji Sports held its 5th Annual Frankie Williams Charity Classic game at the Theodore D. Young Community Center. The event's goal is to raise money for academic and youth programs at the center.
Established to honor late Frankie Williams, an integral part of the community center, the Charity Classic helps showcase NYC and Westchester top talent as well as initiate many positive programs to help enrich student-athletes lives.
Before the game began, guest coach Bobby Gonzalez gathered all of the players in the middle of the floor and spoke to them about the importance of playing in smaller events as well big ones. The other guest coaches on deck were Kevin Jones, Rashad James, Brian "Smokin Aces" Kortovich, Louis Flores, Pat Buckley and Kashif Pratt.
Both teams were equally loaded with committed high major players, up n' comers and other top area talent.
Blue team players:
Rawle Alkins, Kevin Degnan, Desure Buie, Kai Mitchell, Ricky McGill, Max Twyman, Ty Jerome, Chris McCullough, Jamil Gambini, and Adonis Dela Rosa.
Black team players:
Isaiah Whitehead, Desi Rodriguez, Lenny Kadisha, Naim Thomas, Tremaine Fraiser, Roy Kane, Brandon Martin, Derek Dorn and Chuba Ohams.
The game was more about the spectacular play than defensive. The Blue team would hold onto a two point lead at the end of the half 62-60. Heading into the third the momentum would shift as both teams traded baskets leaving the score tied up at 94.
Alkins, Whitehead, and McCullough would deliver high flying alley oops that would light up the crowd. The closely matched game finished in NBA numbers with the Blue team taking a slim 123-121 victory.
MVP honors would go to Alkins with Seton Hall bound Isaiah Whitehead receiving the sportsmanship award.
