Commitment over with, Jones turns to recruiting others
On Sunday the Florida Gators picked up a big commitment when Moreno Valley (Ca.) Rancho Verde Rivals250 quarterback Sheriron Jones pulled the trigger while on campus.
Immediately after making his pledge he left Gainesville to head back out west.
When Inside the Gators was finally able to reach him on Tuesday he discussed the reasoning behind his choosing the Gators
"The players are great and they really just felt like family to me," said Jones. "The coaches were straight up about their quarterback situation and they let me know what was going on in the program and things like that."
Jones made the long trip from California to the Swamp for his first ever time and was highly impressed with what he saw both on the campus and from the coaching staff.
"The players are really amazing and I just felt so much like home. I just got a feeling when I was on that camp and I know that is where I wanted to be. The coaches were recruiting me and they are great but those players they have at Florida are the kind of people you want to surround yourself around."
One UF assistant in particular the 6-foot-2, 189-pounder spent time with was new offensive coordinator Kurt Roper. While in Gainesville this past weekend Jones got a chance to see for himself just he will fit into Roper's offensive scheme.
"I fit in perfect and everything Coach Roper is doing with the offense is what I do now. He does a great job of making everything simple for the quarterback and the wide receivers. I think we are going to do great this year because he really has a great game plan."
With his commitment now in the rear view mirror Jones is looking to shut things down with his own recruiting process and has turned his efforts into persuading other prospects to join him at Florida.
"I've talked to [George] Campbell," said Jones. "He knows what he wants to do and it's up to him to make the decision on where he wants to go. I have talked to a couple other guys like CeCe Jefferson, Ray-Ray McCloud, and Martez Ivey. I just am trying to see where their interest is with Florida and try to get close with them. It's their decision so I don't really want to push them or anything like that, just want to get close because they could one day maybe be teammates with me."
Going forward Jones said he is shutting down his recruiting process and will not be taking any visits to other schools. He also noted he likely wouldn't be able to make it back to Gainesville until official visit time.
