FSU lands commitment No. 9

With several senior safeties getting ready to graduate it was no surprise that Florida State finally extended a scholarship offer to Dorian Munroe. It didn't talk long for the Coral Reef (Miami) standout to take that offer and run with it.

"He committed last night," Coral Reel defensive coordinator Ron Butler told Warchant.com. "He called coach (James) Colzie and he talked to coach (Mickey) Andrews this morning and the rest is history."

Munroe was impressive at Florida State's camp last July but it took a while for the Seminole coaches to finally offer the all-state safety. During the summer and fall he accumulated a pretty impressive list of suitors including having offers from Florida, Auburn, Georgia and N.C. State. But when the offer from the Seminole coaching staff, the 6-foot, 180-pound safety knew that's where he wanted to be.

"He called me last night and said 'coach I'm starting to really feel Florida State,'" Butler said. "I said 'oh yea?' He said 'I'm going to go ahead and do it.'"

Even though coach Butler believes his star defensive back will stick to his commitment, Munroe still plans on making an official visit to Florida next month.

As a senior Munroe had 70 tackles and three interceptions. In his junior season he racked up 67 tackles and had 8 interceptions. Rivals.com ranks him as a three-star prospect, the No. 10 safety in the country and the No. 26 player in Florida.

"To sum it up in a couple words, the kid is an athlete," Butler said. "He's a guy you could line up at receiver, defensive back, running back, kick return or punt return - he's one of the guys that gets the job done... The kid is a ball hawk. Anything you put up in the air he gets. I'm not sure where Florida State wants him - I'm thinking cornerback or safety, but as far as a lock down corner he can get the job done."

Munroe carries a 3.0 GPA and is already fully qualified.
