Louisiana still deep
Some have considered this somewhat of a down year in the state of Louisiana for the second consecutive year. While that may hold some truth, the Pelican State still produces a ton of talent and should go over 40-deep this year in prospects signing Division I scholarships.
The LSU Tigers usually mop up the top of the in-state list, and from the looks of it, not much will change for the class of 2006.
Three prospects made the Rivals100 list and landed at the top three spots of the state list. LSU commit Al Woods comes in as the state's top prospect and is also considered the No. 1 defensive tackle in the nation. Jonesboro Hodge running back Charles Scott is ranked as the No. 2 player in the state and is ranked as the nation's No. 69 overall player. Coming in at No. 3 is Destrehan athlete Jai Eugene, who ranks as the nation's No. 94 player overall, as well.
Rayville running back Richard Murphy just missed the Rivals 100, but comes in as the states No. 4 prospect. LSU commitment Jacob Cutrera rounds out the top five. The Tigers scored a third commitment in the top 10 with Lazarius Livingston who earned the No. 6 spot.
Perhaps the two fastest-rising prospects in the Pelican State at this point are New Iberia (La.) Westgate wide receiver Jared Mitchell, who comes in as the No. 7 prospect in the state, and Hammond safety Troy Giddens , who has recently picked up offers from Ole Miss, UCLA and Nebraska and earns the No. 13 spot in the state.
Alexandria running back Chris Brown may come in as the state's No. 3 running back prospect, but he nailed down the No. 9 spot in the state. West Monroe defensive back Shomari Clemons is a tremendously talented prospect who earned the No. 8 ranking in the state. Some feel Clemons may be a top five player in the state, but he has some qualifying issues. Reserve (La.) East St. John wide receiver Ricky Dixon rounds out the top ten. Dixon caught 66 passes for 1,307 yards and 19 touchdowns as a junior.
