Perez makes it official
Antwine Perez decided to cut the recruiting process short.Camden (N.J.) four-star safety
After narrowing his list of favorite schools to Michigan and USC, Perez held a press conference at Woodrow Wilson High School this morning to announce he was heading to Southern California.
The 6-foot-1, 200-pound all-conference, all-South New Jersey defensive back becomes the second safety to verbally commit to the Trojans this fall. Last month, five-star safety Taylor Mays announced his intentions to sign with USC next February.
For Perez, his reasons for committing were about winning and feeling comfortable with his new home away from home.
"With USC, it doesn't really get any better than that," said Perez. "Two-time defending national champs, top recruiting classes... everything is just going well over there and I think I could fit right in. USC just felt like home."
"I called the staff and told them I was ready to be a Trojan, but they already knew."
Perez is still set to enroll at USC in January. With the graduation of Scott Ware and the expected loss of Darnell Bing to the NFL Draft, the Trojans have gone a long ways in filling any possible voids for the 2006 season.
