SC's top OL talks recruiting, UT visit

Columbia (SC) Spring Valley High School offensive lineman Quintin Richardson is heading into the Spring as one of the Top 100 players in the Class of 2007 for Rivals.com, as well as one of SCVarsity.com's Top Five players. The 6-5, 265lbs trenchman was at the University of Tennessee this past weekend and he spoke with SCVarsity.com about his visit with the Vols and his recruiting.

What did the big man like about Tennessee?

"Everything about them," Richardson said. "Their facilities were great, their stadium was incredible, and I liked their campus. I got to see Coach Fulmer while I was there."

But Richardson said that while he enjoyed his visit, the Vols are in no higher position on his list that anyone else.

"I'm still wide open," said Richardson. "I like all of the schools that have offered me and I've really just got to wait and see which one is the best fit for me."

What will be his best fit?

"Early playing time is important, but I want to be able to develope as a player for my future. Academics is also going to be important."

Currently, Richardson has offers from the University of South Carolina, Clemson, Tennessee, Maryland, Middle Tennessee, and Kentucky.

Richardson will be going to South Carolina's Junior Day this coming weekend, and will be going to Kentucky on March 5th for there junior day.

In the mean time, the star of Jimmy Noonan's Spring Valley Viking line is working out daily, including his school workouts and special speed and agility training at the Athlete's Arena, a training facility in Irmo specializing in sports-specific and position-specific training.

"Coach Armstrong (strength coach) and our other coaches are getting us ready for the Power Clean competition," said Richardson. That even will be held at Spring Valley in March. Currently, Richardson is hitting 280lbs on his power clean. Last year, he finished fifth overall in the Power Clean competition. On the field this past fall, he recorded 79 knockdown blocks.

Richardson will be attending the Nike Camp in Clemson in May.
