Offensive Lineman Chooses Gamecocks

Columbia (S.C.) Spring Valley offensive tackle Quintin Richardson has pledged to play his college football at the school where he wants to help build a tradition. Despite the obvious difficulty in the decision, Richardson said he is at peace about his choice and is following his heart to the choice that was best for him - the University of South Carolina.

The 6-foot-4, 270-pounder was down to in-state schools South Carolina and Clemson and long-time Palmetto State talent raider Tennessee. He also mentioned Maryland, the first school to offer him, as well as N.C. State as finalists.

But it was the Gamecocks who have won his future services and, according to Richardson, it was because of the honesty and sincere approach that Gamecock recruiter David Reeves took when building a relationship with the recruit.

"I wanted to make the decision that was best for me," said Richardson. "I saw all I needed to see and had all of the information to make the decision. I prayed about it and really feel that South Carolina is the place I want to be at for football and also for when my football days are done."

Richardson has been hinting about an early commitment throughout most of the process. Typically, prospects who commit early tend to go with the school that they are most familiar with. In this case, that was the hometown Gamecocks. Richardson has been to numerous spring practices and South Carolina's Junior Day event. That, combined with his friendship with current Gamecocks cornerback commit Gary Gray certainly made South Carolina seem like the favorite in his final list.
