Rennie Moore Jr. Is A Tiger

[Talk about this story on The Esso Club Message Board]

Clemson has landed its sixth verbal commitment in St. Marys, Ga. - Camden County jumbo-athlete Rennie Moore Jr., as first officially reported by Tigerillustrated.com.

The 6-foot-5, 260-pound jumbo-athlete drove up to Clemson last night with his father and began his unofficial visit and tour this morning where he gave head football coach Tommy Bowden and defensive coordinator - recruiter Vic Koenning a verbal commitment.

Moore, who picked Clemson over Florida State, told Tigerillustrated.com Friday afternoon he would be committing to Clemson while on campus today.

Moore spoke with Tigerillustrated.com this morning shortly after meeting with Bowden and Koenning.

"I don't know how to describe everything I've seen here today. It was great. Death Valley was great, the facilities, everything was great," Moore Jr. told Tigerillustrated.com in an in-person interview Saturday. "When I went into Death Valley, I wanted to play some football. I just wanted to go ahead and get started."

Moore Jr. credits Camden County head football coach Jeff Herron for getting him started several years ago.

"Coach Herron has coached me up ever since I was in the seventh grade. He let me get in on some varsity games when I was a freshman, and he has been with me every step of the way."

Moore Jr. also credits his mother Carolyn and father Rennie Moore Sr. for his foundation as a prospective student-athlete.

"I love my mama. She has always been there by my side, and she has given me so much support and encouragement through the years. My dad has been there for me, too."

Moore Sr. said the early commitment from his son was welcomed so that the Camden County star would focus on his senior year without distractions from the recruiting process.

"This is good. Whatever's best for him, and this is what he wanted to do," Moore Sr. said. "We spoke with coach (Tommy) Bowden and he was very direct, and I know he's going to coach him, support him and let him play some football."

"Coach Bowden knows what he wants in a football team and I know what I want in a football team," Moore Jr. added. "I think when we spoke this morning there was a real good connection. He has a sense of humor, and he's a funny guy, but he's direct, too."

Moore Jr. said more offers are on the way, but noted that his decision would likely stick.

"I'm firm. I'm a firm verbal commit. I won't be taking any official visits to other schools," he said. "I'm going to sign with Clemson on National Signing Day in February. This is where I'm going. I'm a small-town kind of guy and this is a small town, so this is where I'm going to play college football."

Moore Jr. is recovering from a compound fracture sustained last year, and said Saturday he has made a near full recovery, practicing with his team this spring at near full speed.

Clemson is expected to take as many as three defensive ends in the 2006-07 recruiting class.

Moore Sr. has requested that Rivals.com list his son's hometown as St. Marys, his actual residence, which is near the town of Kingsland, the location of Camden County High.
