SEC Notes: LSU five-star RB qualifies

A quick look at the latest news out of the SEC from around the Rivals.com Network:

SEC East Practice Reports
Florida: Freshman tailback Brandon Jones suffered a knee injury in practice this week. He had arthroscopic surgery and is expected to be out at least a month. Urban Meyer is still having a hard time deciding who to name as the team's captains, and may name game captains instead. Receiver Andre Caldwell missed time this week with a high fever.
Georgia: Wide receiver John Logan and offensive lineman Micah Jones have both been suspended for the opener against Louisville. Sophomore offensive tackle Aaron Miller has been ruled academically ineligible for the upcoming season.
Kentucky: Wide receiver John Logan and offensive lineman Micah Jones have both been suspended for the opener against Louisville. Sophomore offensive tackle Aaron Miller has been ruled academically ineligible for the upcoming season.
South Carolina: A big concern in South Carolina camp this week is the injury to star-receiver Sidney Rice. Rice injured his shoulder Monday. He practiced Wednesday with a wrap on his shoulder. He ran routes and caught passes but has been held out of contact. Freshman receiver Moe Brown has missed most of this week's practice with a sprained left ankle and may not return until early next week.
Tennessee: Michael Frogg will get the first chance at the Vols' starting center job. Josh McNeil will back Frogg up, but could still see significant playing time. Linebacker Jerod Mayo is out of his walking boot and should be back over the weekend. Montario Hardesty missed some time this week but did ride a stationary bike.
Vanderbilt: Running back Cassen Jackson-Garrison is recovering from his appendectomy. He did some light running during practice at the end of this week but did not participate in contact drills. Redshirt freshman Ryan Custer has moved ahead of Josh Eames for the starting left guard position.
SEC West Practice Reports
Alabama: Freshman Andre Smith has secured the starting left tackle position, moving Chris Capps to the right side where he continues to battle returning starter Kyle Tatum. Receiver Keith Brown has struggled to stay healthy, but his knack for finding the end zone has helped him keep his starting spot.
Arkansas: Star running back Darren McFadden had the pin removed from his injured big toe this week. Last year's SEC Freshman of the Year still has a lot of soreness in the toe and remains doubtful to play against Southern Cal. Sophomore Felix Jones will get the bulk of the carries in McFadden's absence. Marques Wade, a 6-4 freshman receiver, has been playing the part of Trojans all-American receiver Dwayne Jarrett in practice.
Auburn: Senior linebacker Will Herring returned to practice this week after a hamstring injury. Receiver Courtney Taylor also returned. Joining him in the receiving corps was freshman Mario Fannin, who made the move from running back to receiver on Monday. JUCO transfer Greg Smith participated in his first full-pad practice. The 345-pound defensive tackle even participated in the goal-line scrimmage.
LSU: The running game got a big boost Thursday when the NCAA Clearinghouse cleared running back Keiland Williams. The fifth-ranked recruit in the 2006 class is expected to join LSU this weekend. Freshman offensive lineman Steven Singleton was also cleared this week and began practicing with the team.
Mississippi State: Toledo transfer Lance Long has looked good in fall camp and should be a contributor for the Bulldogs this fall. The kicking duties will be split this fall, with Adam Carlson handling the field goals and Derek Ambrose doing the kickoffs.
Ole Miss: After two years at Hinds Community College, former Mississippi State recruit and current Ole Miss linebacker Rory Johnson joined the team Tuesday. Freshman offensive lineman John Jerry was officially cleared by the NCAA Clearinghouse on Tuesday. Earlier in the week Jerry had worked his way into the starting lineup.
