Dreams on the line in Week 3

Position Power Rankings
Early look at Week 3
The College Football Wire

Get the inside scoop on your favorite team:

Sure the first two weeks of the college football season have had their big moments. We've seen a No. 1 vs. No. 2 showdown, Notre Dame yo-yo in the polls, a Heisman contender lost for the season and too many highlights to list.

And it's only Week 3.

But what a week.

Sept. 16 is a date circled on refrigerator magnets and many a coach's calendar. It's a Saturday that has loomed large for programs across the country since the schedules were released. Coaches, players and fans have known for months this week could make or break their seasons. This week will see some dreams come closer to reality and others dashed.

Forget the trite nicknames, let's get to the games.

SEC divisional titles may be on the line when Florida meets Tennessee and LSU heads to Auburn. These are two heated rivalries that could ruin the losers' seasons and propel the winners into contention for the national title.

Nebraska and coach Bill Callahan find out how far they've come when they kick off against USC in the Coliseum. Michigan is the next Big Ten heavyweight headed to South Bend to try to slow Brady Quinn and Notre Dame.

Top-10 teams not your thing? How about one of the more bitter in-state rivalries out there? Iowa and Iowa State meet in a game that may be decided before the coin toss based on the health of Hawkeyes quarterback Drew Tate.

We break it all down conference by conference as the hours wind down to kickoff on the biggest day (so far) of the 2006 season.

Week 3 conference previews: ACC | Big East | Big Ten | Big 12 | Pac-10 | SEC
