Despite being one of the most highly-regarded wide receiver prospects in the country, Dez Bryant didn't see this one coming. When the receiver from Lufkin, Texas, was informed by his coach to see him after practice, Bryant didn't think it was to tell him about his selection to the inaugural Offense-Defense All-American Bowl on Jan. 4.

"Coach (John) Outlaw took me to the side after practice and said he needed to talk to me," Bryant said. "I thought I was in trouble, but he said it was good news. He told me after practice about the package and I opened the envelope and it said 'Congratulations, you have been selected.' I was really happy."

Five facts about Dez Bryant

The all-star game will be held in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and televised live on ESPNU.

The game will give Bryant a chance to have a good time and compete against the best players in the country.

"There are a lot of people that know I can play," Bryant said. "I just want to go and have fun with this thing. It's going to be real exciting. We're going to represent for Texas and for the West."

Bryant has had quite the recruiting process. He has collected scholarship offers from schools such as Iowa, LSU, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, and Texas Tech.

Being a member of one of the nation's top-ranked high school teams, he says he's still going to try to find time for official visits.

"I'm going to try to take a visit to LSU," Bryant said. "My favorites are Oklahoma, LSU, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, and you can throw Nebraska in there. I'll probably visit all of those schools and then make my announcement at the bowl game."

Bryant's Lufkin team achieved the school's 600th win this past Friday night and will begin the playoffs against Klein this Saturday.
