Monroe ready to compete with the best

SAN ANTONIO - There were very few players who had an easier trip to San Antonio for the U.S. Army All-American Bowl than Angleton, Texas four-star prospect D.J. Monroe. The 5-foot-9, 165-pound cornerback arrived early in the city of the Alamo and was relieved to finally be in game preparation mode.

"It feels pretty good actually, I had been waiting for this week to come. I had been counting down actually," Monroe laughed. "I haven't been to San Antonio since I was like 15, that was the last time I ran track down there.

"Plus the hotel is nice. It's just doing a lot of stuff that I haven't been through."

Recently Monroe befriended another U.S. Army All-American and says that he is ready to get on the field Saturday to tangle with Jonas Gray.

"I'm not really thinking about playing against the receivers. I'm ready to go against Jonas Gray. We got to know each other at EAS out in Arizona a few weeks ago. He is a pretty cool person," Monroe explained. "As for the game, I'm just trying to have fun and learn, and have a new experience."

While there are several players from the Houston area that will be playing in the Army All-American Bowl Monroe says that he takes the responsibility of representing Texas' biggest city.

"It means a lot to me, I'm going to represent the Houston area real well, going to do it with respect and look good doing it," he said.

However, he also represents the large Texas Longhorn faction that is in San Antonio, a faction that is automatically at odds with several of their current teammates. It seems that the trash talk in San Antonio is about to begin.

"Of course I have to get in there, I've always been a Texas fan, I don't do the OU thing."
