From the Road: Rivals100 matchup

Rivals.com recruiting analysts had the opportunity to scout Rivals100 prospects Branden Smith and Darren Myles in Atlanta and top 2010 Tennessee prospect Jaquez Smith in games this past weekend.

Here are some rundowns on the top prospects they saw in person, listed alphabetically.

RB DEMOND DENNIS (5-9/188), Atlanta Carver
CONSIDERING: Has not narrowed his choices.
PERFORMANCE: Had 25 carries for 252 yards and two catches for 52 yards in a 20-7 loss to Atlanta Washington.
STRENGTHS: Runs hard and has excellent change of direction. He is really compact and thinks nothing of squaring his pads and running someone over. Running out of bounds is not an option. He also has soft hands out of the backfield.
WEAKNESSES: Needs to work on his top-end speed. His speed is good but it could be better. BARRY EVERY
ATH ANTONIO GOODWIN (6-2/170), Atlanta Washington
2010 PROSPECT
CONSIDERING: Currently has one offer, from Georgia, which he received after their camp.
PERFORMANCE: Had a couple of catches, and several open-field tackles in a 20-7 victory over Atlanta Carver.
STRENGTHS: Has excellent speed and good change of direction. He could project on either side of the ball, as a receiver or a safety. He also does a nice job getting downfield on punt coverage.
WEAKNESSES: Needs to add some size and strength. Goodwin also needs to concentrate on watching the ball into his hands. B.E.
ATH DARREN MYLES (6-0/185), Atlanta Carver
CONSIDERING: Has not narrowed his choices.
PERFORMANCE: Had four catches for 52 yards and five tackles in a 20-7 loss to Atlanta Washington.
STRENGTHS: Has good size, excellent speed and loves to hit. Myles also possesses good ball skills and could play safety or receiver at the next level.
WEAKNESSES: Does not lack for confidence but can get down on himself after mistakes. B.E.
WR/DB QUTAVIUS PARKS (5-11/162), Nashville (Tenn.) Maplewood
CONSIDERING: Has received interest from some local programs, such as Middle Tennessee State.
PERFORMANCE: Returned an interception for a touchdown. Also had a punt-return touchdown called back by penalty.
STRENGTHS: Parks has some playmaking ability. He is good with the ball in his hands, and has good speed and good wiggle. Though he made some plays on defense, Parks projects best on the offensive side because he is so effective as a playmaker with the ball.
WEAKNESSES: Doesn't have a great frame and isn't that physical. As a defender, his role is as a deep safety, but you'd like to see him be a little bit more active and involved. BARTON SIMMONS
CB BRANDEN SMITH (5-10/170), Atlanta Washington
CONSIDERING: Still open at this time.
PERFORMANCE: Had two key interceptions and a TD catch in a 20-7 win over Atlanta Carver.
STRENGTHS: Tremendous speed, with good ball skills and change of direction. He is a threat to score at anytime with the ball in his hands.
WEAKNESSES: Needs to add some overall size and strength, and be more aggressive in run support. B.E.
DE JAQUEZ SMITH (6-2/230), Ooltewah (Tenn.) High
2010 PROSPECT
CONSIDERING: To be determined.
PERFORMANCE: Had two impressive catches at tight end and was all over the field from his defensive end spot.
STRENGTHS: Smith is extremely physical and athletic. He showed good speed, nearly running down a punt returner from behind. He showed good toughness by playing through an injury. He is solid off the edge as a pass rusher and is physical with his hands taking on blocks and pursuing the run. Following the game, it was clear that Smith is a leader as a junior on his team. Will be one of the top defenders in the Southeast in 2010.
WEAKNESSES: At around 6-2, Smith does not have the prototypical size for defensive end. He actually may project better as an inside linebacker. He has a thick frame and short, quick and powerful steps that you like to see out of an inside 'backer. As a defensive end, his ceiling is not as high. B.S.
