Bruins land JUCO

There is no doubt that the Bruins needed help on the offensive line and in their search of getting it they were going to comb the nation on both, the high school and junior college level. UCLA has received more offensive line help and once again it comes from the JUCO level. This talented athlete has the potential to play on either side of the ball.

The received the verbal commitment of Eddie Williams (6-1, 315, 5.1) who played his high school ball for Honolulu (Hawai'i) Damien and played his sophomore season at Walnut (Calif.) Mt. SAC.

While playing for Pasadena City College, year ago, Williams was an all-conference selection as a defensive tackle for his freshman season performance. He was asked by the Mt. SAC staff to play offensive line because that was the position that the team needed him the most and he did so without hesitation, nor complaint.

"I met the coaches on an unofficial visit to UCLA," Williams said. "I just got along with everyone. UCLA put me on a little (academic) game plan for me and once I get my AA degree, I will be a Bruin."

"UCLA has a good program," Williams said. "I know they're a little down, but it is not where you are at, it is where you finish."

"The Bruins have a big future with their coaching staff and if I can help, I'm all for that."

Mount SAC offensive line coach Bobby Purcell feels the Bruins have landed a good player and a good person.

"Eddie is easy to coach and willing to learn," Purcell said. "He's an outstanding student on the field, meaning when I ask him what he sees out there on the field, he says what I want to hear. He's very dependable."

"Eddie is tough and that's one of the things I like about him most," Purcell said. "He has good field vision, when the opposition is coming with the blitz, he sees it and blocks the right person."

"For a guy Eddie's size, he's very athletic," Purcell said. "He played defensive tackle for Pasadena City College last year and he brings that agility of a defensive lineman to the offensive side of the ball. Eddie plays on the offensive line with that nasty defensive line attitude."
