4-star RB commits to Rebels, plans calls

Rodney Scott departed Oxford, Miss., this morning, ready for the nine-hour drive back to Cross City, Fla.

Before he left, however, he took care of some important business.

First, he went to Rebel Rags, a store chock full of Ole Miss clothing and paraphernalia, and loaded up on Rebel gear.

I got a bunch of stuff for my family, my dad and mom, a couple of friends, my coach, his wife and everything," Scott said, laughing.

Then he met with Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt and gave the Rebels' boss the news he was waiting on.

Scott, a four-star running back who had previously committed to Auburn, committed to Ole Miss, choosing the Rebels over a host of suitors and giving Nutt another heralded recruit with loads of star potential.

"I'm done," Scott said. "It's like getting a monkey off my back. I talked to my daddy last night and felt like it was the right fit."

Scott, who is rated by Rivals.com as the No. 5 all-purpose back in the country and is a member of the Rivals 250, knew earlier in the weekend that Ole Miss was going to be his home.

"I had a good weekend and everything," Scott said. "I liked the coaches a whole lot and I liked everything about Ole Miss. I felt like it was the right fit for me. It was more than I was expecting. Most teams that I was talking to weren't as close to their head coach as they were at Ole Miss. Everybody talks about the Rebels when you are around town and stuff, too. I liked it."

On deck for Scott is a change in hats. He said he plans to go from the recruited to the recruiter, starting tonight with a call to Fort Meade, Md., four-star quarterback Raymond Cotton, an Auburn commitment who has lined up official visits to Southern Mississippi and Ole Miss while also considering Florida and Arkansas.

"I'm going to call him some time tonight," Scott said. "I'm going to try to get him to do what I've done."

The plan, Scott said, is simple: He wants to get Ole Miss where it's never been -- to Atlanta for the Southeastern Conference Championship Game. And he's planning on getting Cotton and others to join him on the journey.

"Me and Coach (Nutt) talked about it today," Scott said. "He said this class is going to be the class to take them there. We're getting ready for it."
