The Starting Five

Each week from now through the end of the season, PowerMizzou.com will honor the top Tiger basketball players in a feature called The Starting Five. This week, honor the five Tigers who had the best weekend while Mizzou moved on to the Sweet 16.

The Starting Five
1 Kim English, G/F English scored 30 points in two games. His 13 against Cornell came in only 11 minutes. His first 15 against Marquette came in about six minutes. That's 28 points in 17 minutes for those scoring at home. Oh, yeah, he hit the game-winning free throws on Sunday too. NR
2 Leo Lyons, F Lyons was dominant against Cornell with 23 and 10 boards. He followed it up with 18 against Marquette. It wasn't Lyons' best game, but he was the biggest when his team needed him. The three-point play that gave Mizzou a late lead was huge. 3
3 DeMarre Carroll, F Carroll put numbers up quietly, but put up numbers he did. In two games, he averaged 14 points, 7.5 rebounds and four assists. He had two blocked shots and three steals and did not commit a turnover. That's pretty good. 1
4 J.T. Tiller, G Like Carroll, Tiller did not have monstrous numbers. But he did have very good numbers. Tiller averaged 10.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and had three steals. Tiller also drove to set up the winning points against Marquette and consistently got big buckets for the Tigers in the second half. NR
5 Matt Lawrence, G/F Lawrence was not good against Cornell. He scored only two points and missed all of his three-point shots. But there may have been no one better against Marquette. Lawrence scored 16 points and actually did the majority of his damage inside the three-point line. As has been the case all season, Missouri is moving on because of contributions from many, many players. 5
