MWC Football Poll Released

The Mountain West Conference released their pre-season media poll during the Football Media Days.

Not surprisingly, TCU earned the top spot, pulling in 15 out of 24 first-place votes. The Frogs look to build on a strong 11-2 2008 season with junior quarterback Andy Dalton leading a strong offensive unit. On defense, All-America candidate defensive end Jerry Hughes along with cornerbacks Rafael Priest and Nick Sanders. How the Frogs replace seven starters on defense will likely be the key to their season.

BYU came in a distant second, receiving six first-place votes. The Cougars will miss starting wide receivers Austin Collie and Michael Reed along with four of their five offensive linemen from 2008. Quarterback Max Hall
Utah rounds out the top three, receiving three first place votes. Despite returning most of an excellent defensive unit, the Utes their heart and soul in quarterback Brian Johnson. With plenty of talent on the offensive line and in the offensive skill positions, QB play will determine how well the Utes follow up their perfect 2008. [db]Corbin Louks,Terrance Cain, and Jordan Wynn will continue the battle for the starting spot in fall camp.

Air Force, UNLV, Colorado State, New Mexico, San Diego State, and Wyoming rounded out the poll in that order.
