Top 2009 fall camp storylines

Defensive line leading the charge

There's little secret that senior defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh is the face of Nebraska football this season, but his fellow d-linemen just might make the Huskers' front four one to remember for a while.

With the help of players like ends Pierre Allen and Barry Turner and tackle Jared Crick, Suh and Co. give NU a huge advantage in the trenches and should make the entire unit one of the best in the conference.

The Zac Lee era begins

After officially winning the starting quarterback job in the spring, junior Zac Lee will finally be handed the keys to the car this fall. Nebraska's coaching staff seems to have plenty of faith in Lee's ability to lead the offense, and his teammates say they have already accepted him as their field general.

How quickly Lee settles into his new starting role will likely have a major influence on how Nebraska's season turns out, especially early on. He's got the defense and the running game to help ease his transition, but Lee will have to step up to the plate for the Huskers' goals to be realized.

Running game is ready to roll

If the defensive line is the clear strength of the defense, then the same can be said for the running game and the offense. Behind the tandem of juniors Roy Helu and Quentin Castille, Nebraska's running backs are deep and loaded this year.

Behind them is a talented cast of promising underclassmen, highlighted by the arrival of incoming freshmen like Rex Burkhead, who could make an immediate impact this year. With this amount of weapons at their disposal, look for Nebraska to ride its running game as much as possible until Lee and the passing game finds its rhythm.
