Heat a concern to Georgia Tech DT Peters

ATLANTA - Georgia Tech starting defensive tackle Jason Peters was one of several players to return to football practice Thursday.

Peters missed several days because of extreme dehydration, which is a problem he has been battling all his life.

"I just got a little dehydrated and I have always had problems with that since I was a little kid. I have to do a better job of keeping myself hydrated with fluids," he said.

"I need to keep myself from that point where I am going to fall out. I need to make sure I communicate with the coaches and the team trainers, so I keep my health up."

After practice Thursday, Peters said he feels great and he was happy to be back on the field.

"I feel good and I am ready to go. I am just taking it one day at a time with this heat," Peters said. "I just have to be careful. I felt pretty good today and I was well rested. My legs were under me and everything went really well."

Peters lost almost 10 pounds in a couple of days, which alarmed a coaching staff that constantly checks the players' weight during any training periods.

"My weight went down considerably," Peters said. "Now I am starting to gain it all back. I got down to about 258, but now I am heading back toward my goal weight of 275. ... I lost a lot of water weight, especially in these temperatures in full pads."

Peters lined up alongside T.J. Barnes as the starting defensive tackles, while Ben Anderson watched from the sidelines in a red jersey.
