Catching up with Dwight Roberson

Last week BeaverBlitz had the opportunity to get caught up with outside linebacker Dwight Roberson. The junior from Oxnard, CA was a key contributor for Coach Banker's defense last year and looks to continue that this year.

Dwight spent a majority of the summer around the Corvallis area with his teammates participating in summer conditioning, but did find the time to make his way down home to see his family and friends in Oxnard.

When he was in town and not training, he can often be found with Keaton Kristick, Joe Halahuni and Lyle Moevao playing some video games. We asked Dwight if has had the opportunity to play the new NCAA 2010 football game.

"Yeah, I've gotten to play it a couple times. It's a pretty good game. It's cool to see all of my teammates on it and see everyone's ratings and everything. Everyone then says that, you know, my rating is better than yours and stuff. It's fun."

On a more serious note, Roberson is currently entrenched in a position battle with Keith Pankey for the weakside linebacker position. Even with the lack of certainty regarding who is starting and who is not, it doesn't seem to faze Roberson.

"I'm ok with splitting the playing time with Keith, you know, we'll see what happens as camp goes on," Roberson stated. "Obviously the coaches haven't made a decision yet as we're rotating back and forth. But while they're thinking about it, all I can do is just keep being me and doing my thing. And hopefully it'll change one way or another. And if it doesn't then it is what it is."

Roberson has had a great fall camp so far, showing that he can do a little bit of everything, from stopping the run, shedding blockers to make a tackle and dropping back into coverage. No matter who starts, both Roberson and Pankey will be key cogs to the defense.

With all of the underclassmen in the line backing core, from Rueben Robinson to Kameron Krebs, we wanted to find out who has stood out over the first half of fall camp.

"The Unga brothers are catching on really fast. And then there is Rueben Robinson and Zane Norris," he said. "We need those guys to really step up because right now there are only four of us that really know the defense well. So if we can get those other guys to step up we'll be perfectly fine and hopefully get a bit of a rotation going on."

Stay tuned to BeaverBlitz as we will be catching back up with Dwight and other Beaver players throughout the upcoming season.
