Defense Propels Panthers to 2-0 Start
ARLINGTON- For a team that's typically known for a high powered offensive attack the Colleyville Heritage Panthers (2-0) showed that they can get it done of the defensive side of the ball as well with a dominating 28-6 win over Irving MacArthur (1-1). CHHS was led on defense by John Miles who returned a Johnny Haynes fumble 20 yards for the game's first touchdown.
The key to the victory for the Panthers revolved around the constant pressure put on Cardinals QB Jason Frimpong, aside from the strong effort by Miles DT Malik McKenzie was outstanding up front as well. CHHS was able to move the ball well in the first quarter moving the ball into Irving MacArthur territory twice but coming away with zero points.
The second quarter was all defense as neither team was able to muster up much offense and at the half Colleyville Heritage held precarious 7-0 lead.
After forcing a Cardinals three and out the Panthers finally put together a scoring drive going 12 plays for 55 yards as QB Jeff Calvert hooked up with Jake McKelvey to put CHHS up 14-0. In the fourth quarter Heritage put the game away with a five play 67 yard drive as sophomore Landon Sherman scored from two yards out making it 21-0. After an Irving MacArthur three and out Colleyville Heritage added to the lead as Calvert found RB Bailey Crego for a one yard scoring pass to make it 28-0 late.
With the backups in the game MacArthur backup QB Shahzeb Khan hit Haynes for a 46 yard touchdown pass to get the Cardinals on the board with little more than two minutes remaining to make it the final margin of 28-6.
