Kent State send another to the NFL
Jacquise Terry got the good news that his football playing days are not behind him.NFL rosters are continuing to expand and that is good news for several players who went undrafted over this past weekend in the NFL's 2012 Entry Draft. Earlier this week we told you about three players from Kent State that got calls but now you can add a fourth name to the list as
The Phenix City (Ala.) native has signed a deal with the Detroit Lions and the multi-talented star will hope that he will be able to catch on with the team and suit up when the Lions open their preseason schedule against the Cleveland Browns on August 10th at Ford Field in Detroit (Mich.).
Terry was a weapon on the ground and via the reception during his days with the Golden Flashes and had 1,721 yards and 14 touchdowns by way of rushing during his career from 2008-2011. During that same time he also caught 57 passes for 612 yards and four scores.
Most undrafted free agents will need to pick up experience with special teams and that is one facet of the game that Terry was never really utilized in during his time at Kent State with only one career kickoff return (1 ret. 20 yards). There will be plenty of time in mini-camps to see if Terry has what it takes to make a name for himself in that category or potentially on one of the coverage teams.
Terry joins Chris Anzevino (Ravens), Ishmaa'ily Kitchen (Ravens) and Sam Kirkland (Redskins) as recent departures to sign with NFL teams after the draft. Last year Kent State had four players as well sign UFA deals with Monte Simmons, Cobrani Mixon, Kirk Belgrave and Brian Lainhart all inking deals. Simmons is still in the league with the Philadelphia Eagles and Mixon is playing north of the border in the CFL.
