10 Gators who have helped their standing up to this point this spring
Time flies. We're now more than three-fourths of the way through Florida's 15 spring practices and less than a week away from the Orange & Blue Debut in The Swamp next Friday night at 7:30 p.m. ET that'll put a wrap on the action this spring.
Although a number of key players have missed the spring due to injuries, and the majority of the 2017 recruiting class doesn't arrive until the summer, there have been an array of important position battles to go around on both sides of the ball this spring.
Some players looking to solidify their roles in their respective rotations have made some noise this spring and caught the attention of Florida's coaches. Today, we look at 10 Gators in particular who have helped their standing up to this point this spring.
-- Redshirt freshman quarterback Feleipe Franks: Franks hasn’t had a perfect spring by any stretch – he’s been inaccurate on some intermediate routes and still has room to grow as a passer – but up to this point he’s established himself as Florida’s first-string quarterback, working the 1’s in 11-on-11 fastball in recent practices. Without going into specifics, Jim McElwain said this week that there has been “a little separation” in the quarterback competition – but for any spectator who's been at practices, it’s clear he’s referring to Franks gaining an edge on Trask. Franks has displayed confidence and positive leadership qualities, showing good overall command of the offense. Being more vocal running the offense and releasing the ball more quickly are two areas where Trask needs to grow.
