As of yesterday, there were exactly four months remaining until Signing Day. While Florida may not be where many hoped or expected rankings wise, there are still plenty of top targets remaining on the board.
As a matter of fact, here are Insider Recruiting Tidbits on 10 such targets.
Florida commit Jerome Baker visited Ohio State last week and still came away from the visit saying he is 100% solid in his commitment to UF. He does plan on taking all five official visits and will use his official to UF for the LSU game. Baker also plans to take an unofficial visit to Tennessee for the Florida game this weekend, but the visit is by no means set in stone. Regardless of whether or not he makes it this weekend, expect Baker to take an official visit to Tennessee down the road as well as Ohio State and perhaps Michigan State.
Miami wide receiver Antonio Callaway planned to take an official visit to Florida State this weekend for the Wake Forest game. However he has since backed off that plan. Schools like Auburn, Florida, Georgia, and LSU seem to be in a much better position.
Another South Florida prospect that Florida is trying to make a move with is Hurricanes linebacker commit Charles Perry. Defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin was at his game this past Friday and Perry could possibly return the visit favor this month with a visit to UF for the LSU game. Perry hasn't made definite plans for the visit, but the Gators are trying to get him on campus.
Florida commit Adonis Thomas will take an unofficial visit to Auburn this weekend with his 2016 Rivals100 teammate E.J. Price. The Tigers don't seem to be a threat to UF for Thomas, but he does plan to take official visits to Oregon, LSU, Alabama and Florida. As of today the Crimson Tide seem to be the biggest threat to flip the four-star.
There have been reports of Florida Rivals250 offensive tackle commit George Brown possibly visiting Kentucky this weekend, a school that was a finalist. However, Brown says that he will not make the trip to Lexington and is unsure of where the rumors of his visit originated.
One big man we are hearing the Gators are trending upward with is Rivals100 offensive tackle Isaiah Prince. At this time Alabama and Florida stick out the most with Ohio State and Maryland in the picture as well. Prince will be in College Park this weekend to watch the Terrapins host Ohio State. An official visit to Florida will most likely come after his season.
Reports are out that Rivals250 offensive lineman Matthew Burrell Jr. will take an official visit to Florida when the Gators host South Carolina. However a coach at Burrell's high school tells us that the visit has not been set up at this time, but Burrell has talked about possibly visiting for that game. Our source tells us Burrell has not talked with UF coaches about being in Gainesville that weekend.
One prospect that is rumored to have the Gators in the drivers seat is Rivals100 athlete Tim Irvin. He's visited Florida recently and speaks almost daily with head coach Will Muschamp or South Florida area recruiter Travaris Robinson. With his family ties to Miami no doubt they will be heavy in the mix, but the Gators are in a much better place than even I thought they were. West Virginia and Georgia are two other schools he hears from frequently.
The Gators remain hopeful of a possible flip of five-star athlete Ray-Ray McCloud III. He made a stop in Gainesville for the Kentucky game and was the last prospect to leave the football offices that night. The already uphill battle Florida was fighting for McCloud is getting tougher each week for the Gators as he was impressed of the play by freshman quarterback Deshaun Watson against FSU and also had a great time on his official visit to Death Valley this past weekend. The biggest question going forward will be if McCloud III still takes other visits down the road as he has indicated in the past as something he wanted to do.
The Florida Gators offered a scholarship to four-star Louisville quarterback commitment Lamar Jackson on Wednesday night after the Sunshine State prospect spoke with Muschamp. We are told Florida still feels very good about current QB commit Sheriron Jones and he also in turn is very solid to UF. Jackson has played very well in his senior year and Florida has been evaluating him for some time, and decided to offer. Jackson is still shopping around despite his commitment to the Cardinals and he could absolutely visit down the road at some point.
