3-2-1: Gators should keep feeding Scarlett

Inside the Gators now reviews Florida's 20-7 win over South Carolina on Saturday in The Swamp with a 3-2-1 report. We provide three observations, present two questions and make one prediction as the Gators head into a crucial road matchup with LSU.

Three things we learned this weekend:

1. The Gators have a bright future at the running back position with sophomore Jordan Scarlett in place as the featured tailback moving forward.

One thing Saturday's contest further proved is that Scarlett can be a force to be reckoned with in the SEC with the right number of opportunities, sufficient offensive line play and a quarterback who's enough of a threat as a runner to keep defenses on their toes. After receiving just five carries in a loss at Arkansas last weekend - a highly questionable move by the coaching staff despite the lack of push up front in the run game - the Gators fed Scarlett with 20 attempts Saturday and he took advantage. He rushed for a career-best 134 yards on the ground, averaging 6.7 yards per carry.

Florida will need to continue to utilize Scarlett as the main back, with key matchups against LSU and FSU looming. It still remains mind-boggling that Florida still gives Mark Thompson early carries that should be going Scarlett's way. Thompson, who also received reps at points in practice this week with the 1's, coughed up the ball and lost the fumble on his first and only carry against South Carolina in the first quarter.
