With offer being the key word here.
The 6-foot-1, 210 pound prospect is still waiting on one of the state's big-three to extend a scholarship offer to him. He has expressed interest in Florida, Florida State and Miami, however although the interest is mutual, none of them have gone as far as to put it in writing.
"Are they waiting for me to prove myself? What the three of them want me to do is something I don't know," said McCarthy, the No. 97 rated prospect on the preseason Florida100. "I don't want to ask them about an offer, but the first one that does offer me will definitely be the leader.
"I mean they're all the same right now because none of them have offered. The thing that will separate them is one of them offering first."
In the past week he has camped with the Seminoles and took an unofficial visit to see the Hurricanes.
"I ended up going to the second session of the Florida State camp. It was nice to work with coach Steele. He's the linebacker coach there and he's one of the best in the business. I called coach Steele and talked to him after the camp and he said he was excited about working with me and liked the way I got after it in the drills. I ran a 4.49 in the forty.
"I went to two practices and then left to go to Miami for an unofficial visit. I got to talk to coach Cristobal there and tour the facilities and campus. I met the Athletic Director and the strength coach."
Next up is the Gators.
"I'm actually going to their Friday Night Lights camp this week. I talked to coach Drayton on Saturday and he's excited to get me up there so that I can show the rest of the staff what I've got."
