TAMPA | No. 17 Florida’s 30-3 victory over Iowa on Monday in the Outback Bowl ended a rollercoaster of a 2016 season on a positive note, but the Gators now enter an offseason where plenty of questions surrounding Jim McElwain’s team.
With changes possibly in order and year three being a pivotal one for McElwain, what ends up happening over the next few months could end up being crucial for the Florida head coach’s regime and in which direction things will trend moving forward. Inside the Gators takes a look at some of the biggest questions on the fan base’s minds at this current moment.
-- Will the Gators find a long-term answer at quarterback in 2017?
Florida enters an offseason where once again the quarterback battle will be one of its most popular and important storylines. At a position where Tim Tebow once reigned supreme in Gainesville, the Gators still haven’t found a stable, reliable answer at the position in seven seasons as Jacoby Brissett, Jeff Driskel, Max Staver, Skyler Mornhinweg, Tyler Murphy, Will Grier and Treon Harris all didn’t see their time at Florida work out for a variety of reasons.
Surprisingly enough, Austin Appleby is now the first Florida quarterback to serve full-time as a signal-caller to start at least one game at Florida and finish his career in Gainesville since John Brantley in 2011.
With Appleby now on the way out, who will step in and assume starting duties in 2017: Luke Del Rio, Feleipe Franks, Kyle Trask or 2017 commit Jake Allen?
