With the month long recruiting dead period approaching at the end of this weekend the Florida Gators coaching staff continues on an all out blitz along the recruiting trail this week.
Over the last two days the Gators had most of the staff out on the road making stops. Inside the Gators takes a look at some of these visits.
TUESDAY VISITS
Florida head coach Jim McElwain and defensive line coach Chris Rumph were on road together on Tuesday. The two coaches will be in to see defensive end Jordan Smith, who recently backed off a commitment to South Carolina. The early enrollee is between Tennessee and Florida and is expected to use an official visit to Gainesville this weekend.
Rumph and McElwain also saw Rivals250 defensive lineman Antwuan Jackson as well. The four-star used an official visit to Florida a few weekend ago for the FSU game. After the visit the staff felt they have ground to make up on Auburn and Ohio State. Jackson will also make his commitment on December 17th, which doesn't give Florida much time to make a move.
The final prospect the two saw on Tuesday is Florida State defensive end commitment Janarius Robinson for an in home visit. The Rivals100 member has been committed to the Seminoles for some time but is keeping lines of communications open with schools like Florida and Alabama. The Gators are expected to land an official visit from the four-star pass rusher.
Florida wide receivers coach Kerry Dixon had an important visit on Tuesday as he traveled to Tampa Catholic high school to see five-star wide receiver Nate Craig-Myers. The Gators have seemed like the team to beat for some time now, but with the offense struggling the last few games of the season it's caused others to get a foot in the door. Auburn, Florida State, Ole Miss, and North Carolina have all been mentioned recently. The nations top wide receiver plans to make his decision on national signing day in February.
Tight end coach Greg Nord stopped in Mississippi to see offensive tackle Scott Lashley and Mississippi State commit Greg Eiland as well. Lashley is also considered a lead to the Bulldogs as well, so the Gators are looking to see if they can make a run at either prospect. Lashley is participating in the Alabama-Mississippi game, so the visit to him would likely be later this evening with two-a-day practices during the day.
Other prospects committed to Florida participating in the all-star game are running back LaMical Perine, linebacker Jeremiah Moon, and defensive back Quincy Lenton. With the prospects busy with practice, Florida coaches visited with the trio's parents. It will be running back Tim Skipper stopping in to see Perine's parents and Collins stopping by to see Lenton and Moon's parents.
With the Gators looking to add a lineman from the JUCO ranks in the 2016 cycle offensive line coach Mike Summers went to see Garden City (NY) Nassau C.C. offensive tackle Malcolm Pridgeon. The Gators have been by to see Pridgeon in the past but schools like Rutgers and West Virginia seem to be in a better place.
Defensive backs coach Kirk Callahan is in the central Florida area on Tuesday. With stops to Spoto high school to see athlete Terence Davis, who currently doesn't have an offer from the Gators. Callahan will also stop by Lakeland High School, which is home of Rivals100 duo James Robinson and A.J. Davis from the 2017 class.
Offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier made his rounds in the D.C. area on Tuesday, an area he has been sent to numerous times in this recruiting cycle. During that stop Nussmeier saw quarterback Dwayne Haskins Jr., offensive linemen Jauan Williams, Richard Merritt, and Terrence Davis.
Defensive coordinator Randy Shannon was in the South Florida area on Tuesday seeing various prospects. One of which that Shannon stopped by to see Tuesday evening for an in-home was cornerback Christopher McWilliams.
WEDNESDAY VISITS
Florida head coach Jim McElwain is in the Orlando area on Wednesday checking in on top underclassmen. He will see offensive center commit Brett Heggie as well.
Running backs coach Tim Skipper was out in the Panhandle. The most important stop for the Gators assistant was to Niceville High School, home of Rivals100 wide receiver, and Auburn commit, Elijah Stove. The Gators hosted Stove on campus during the season and are looking to secure an official visit in January.
While in the Georgia area on Wednesday defensive coordinator Geoff Collins and defensive line coach Chris Rumph stopped in to see Rivals100 defensive end commit Antonneous Clayton.
Rumph also saw 2017 defensive lineman Maraviest Bryant, 2016 defensive tackle Michail Carter, and 2017 Rivals100 defensive end Malik Herring. Collins saw 2016 Moultrie (Ga.) Colquitt County linebacker Dee Walker.
Wide receiver Coach Kerry Dixon will visit two prospects in his recruiting area on Wednesday evening. Dixon's main targets are Daytona Beach (Fla.) Mainland teammates Jachai Polite and Marcus Tatum. Polite is a solid Florida commitment and Tatum has had the Gators as his leader for some time now.
Tight end's coach Greg Nord is in Kentucky, and visited Rivals100 Kentucky offensive tackle commit Landon Young. Offensive line coach Mike Summers also checked in on another top ranked lineman in Rivals250 offensive tackle John Simpson. Florida is mentioned some in the recruitment of Simpson, but many believe he is a lock to stay close to home and play at Clemson.
Defensive backs coach Kirk Callahan is in Alabama and stopped by Carver, Park Crossing, Wetumpka, and Stanhope Elmore High School. Later on in the day Florida extended an offer to 2018 Wetumpka RB/LB Kavosiey Smoke. With Lyndell Wilson and Jeawon Taylor taking part in the Alabama-Mississippi all-star game, Callahan will stop by Carver and Park Crossing to see their coaches. Callahan also saw tight end/defensive end target Kelvin Lucky.
Offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier is still in the DMV area and stopped by to see Rivals100 Maryland linebacker commit Keandre Jones. The four-star has been committed to the Terps for some time, but has been talking with other schools with the status of coach Mike Locksley from Maryland still up in the air. The Gators have a need at linebacker so they have been in talks with the big time defender.
Florida linebackers coach Randy Shannon spent the day around South Florida on Wednesday. In the evening Shannon will make an important visit to the Midwest to see Michigan linebacker commit David Reese. With the need for linebacker this is a huge target for the Gators. Reese will visit Austin this weekend to see the Texas Longhorns and then will return him on Sunday. Reese is a soft verbal to Michigan and plans to enroll early in the college of his choice.
