Cane Berrong, a 6-foot-4, ,225-pound sophomore at Bowersville (Ga.) Hart County, tells GatorsTerritory Dan Mullen's program will be welcoming him to Gainesville on March 23.

Auburn, Georgia, LSU, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Ohio State and Penn State are some additional offers on the table for the Peach State native.

"I like their tradition," Berrong told GatorsTerritory. "They are a program on the rise. Coach Mullen is a great coach and I like how he used his tight ends in the past when he was there as an offensive coordinator.

"The university is putting a lot of money back into their program with the new facilities."

Colleges are unable to directly reach out to 2021 prospects, but Berrong keeps close tabs on the Gators by frequently calling Larry Scott. In fact, UF's tight ends coach said he sees many similarities between Berrong and a former Gator now representing the Chicago Bears.

"I've been talking to coach Scott. He's a real cool guy," Berrong said. "He compared me to Trey Burton and said we had similar skills. He gave me homework to go watch him.

"They used him everywhere; wildcat, H-back, on the line, slot, out wide; they just moved him all over to create mismatches. Coach Scott and I talk about every other week or so and we have a good relationship."

If all goes as planned, Berrong says Dan Mullen's program will be under strong consideration for the long haul.

"I want to get down to 5-10 schools by the end of the summer," Berrong said. "Florida will be on that list."

As a sophomore, Berrong reeled in 31 receptions for 497 yards and three touchdowns.
