Damontre Harris is gone ... again

Billy Donovan's goodwill project has once again ended in disappointment and departure. Center Damontre Harris will not return to Florida for the fall semester and, therefore, will never play basketball for the Gators.
The news was first reported by CBS Sports Wednesday afternoon and was immediately confirmed by UF.

Harris, a 6-foot-10 center, was dismissed from the team five months ago following an indefinite suspension but soon pleaded for a final chance from Donovan and his staff. He had been released to play anywhere he could sign but told Donovan he wanted another shot at being a Gator.
When the spring semester rolled around, Harris was back practicing with the team but was not permitted to participate in the 2013-2014 season. Donovan said he would be devaluing his "core values" if he allowed Harris to play.
The writing was on the wall when Florida accepted South Florida transfer and center John Egbunu last week. The addition meant the Gators would be one over their scholarship limit if no roster changes were made. Harris was previously a transfer from South Carolina who was a member of the Southeastern Conference All-Defensive team for the 2011-2012 season but has not seen game action since.
Donovan will meet with media Thursday to discuss this as well as other offseason news.
