After a relatively quiet summer, the Gator Nation is now on the verge of seeing the action pick up here in the second half of the 2014 recruiting cycle. On Monday three highly rated prospects are scheduled to make their college decision public.
First up this afternoon is Plantation (Fla.) four-star cornerback Chris Lammons, who will chose between Florida, Miami, South Carolina and Tennessee during a ESPNU telecast at 4:45 this afternoon.
Before this blowing up at a 7-on-7 tryout prior to this spring, Lammons was a relatively unknown prospect. Since then he has been one of the most highly sought after prospects in the southern part of the Sunshine State.
"It's been a tough process," Lammons told Rivals.com on Monday. "I am ready to get things over with and just excited to commit somewhere."
The Gators hosted Lammons on campus twice this summer, and has built a great relationship with him; mainly defensive backs coach Travaris Robinson.
In our Crystal Ball Predictions written on Thursday, Florida looked to have some ground to make up if they wanted to pull the South Florida four-star.
However, beginning on Sunday, most of the rumblings surrounding Lammons is that he is down to South Carolina and Florida, two schools that he visited in late July. There were even a few reports that Lammons had dropped the Gators from his final list, but he himself shut down those rumblings in a text to ITG Sunday night.
"I didn't drop UF," said Lammons via text message. "I am looking at Tennessee, South Carolina, Florida and Miami."
Later on Monday night Florida two other names that have been high on the Florida radar will also make their commitment. Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) University School Rivals250 cornerback Quincy Wilson and Homestead (Fla.) Rivals100 wide receiver Ermon Lane announce their decision on WQAM 560 radio in South Florida at 9:00 P.M.
These two south Florida standouts have stated that they want to play college football with each other and have Florida, Ohio State and Southern California as common schools on their list of leaders. This however isn't anything new for Inside the Gator members as Wilson told ITG this news after Friday Night Lights in July.
"We are definitely going to the same college together. We have talked about it a lot and just know that we want to do that," said Wilson in late July. "We haven't decided on a date to pick but sometime in the first week or two in August."
For the most part the buzz has been that both of these top 250 players will pick the Gators tonight. Florida has been the team to beat over the last couple of months.
It looks good for Florida, but this is recruiting and you never know until the announcement is made (and even then, you have to wait until they actually sign).
Blake's Take: "The recruiting roller coaster for Lammons has been a bit of a bumpy one over the past few days with Florida and South Carolina as the prime two candidates. Really since late June and early July when Wilson and Lane have been mentioned, it has been heavy Florida. In the end I my gut tells me that Florida goes two for three today, but I wouldn't be shocked if Lammons surprised the world and made it a clean sweep."
