Driskel at EA Sports Elite 11

What was already shaping up as a 'storybook' type of summer for Orlando (Fla.) Hagerty quarterback Jeff Driskel just got a little better. This summer saw him not only make a commitment to one of the top college football programs in the nation and earn a spot on the prestigious Rivals100 - he's also been invited to compete in the EA Sports Elite 11 Camp, the premiere quarterback camp in the nation.

Attending the camp is something every young quarterback dreams of, Driskel being no exception.

The 6-foot-3, 225-pound signal caller spoke with InsidetheGators.net Monday morning about what it means to him to be an Elite 11 participant.

"It was a big honor," Driskel said of his invitation. "I went there last year to see what it was like and I think being there last year helped me. I learned how to perform in some of the drills they run and what they are looking for in a quarterback. As I progressed last year and got a little bit better, I thought maybe there was a chance I could get invited this year. When they let me know I made it, I was so happy. It is a real honor."

While it is an honor to be invited, at the end of the day, it's still a chance to learn from some of the best quarterback coaches from across the nation.

That is an opportunity that Driskel plans on taking full advantage of throughout the week.

"They have a lot of chalk talk type of settings. That's what I am most interested in. Learning how to read defenses better. I want to really work on improving my footwork during the drills."

Each year, while there's always stories about the camaraderie that is formed among the participants, there's also a high level of competition as each player is striving to be named the top quarterback after each practice.

"It's fun for me. In football, you compete. I'm going to do that in this camp as well. I'm going to learn and I want to have some fun, but I'm going to try to be the best."

The camp runs from Monday through Thursday, meaning Driskel will be unable to take part in Florida's Friday Night Lights Camp this coming weekend.
