Five Fast Thoughts: Florida holds on to lead in the East
For much of the night, it looked like Florida’s three-decade winning streak over Kentucky would finally come to an end. The Gators’ first lead did not come until the 0:43 mark in the fourth quarter, but the Gators held on for a 28-27 win. Inside the Gators delivers Five Fast Thoughts about Saturday’s win in Lexington.
1. Luke Del Rio is likely the starting quarterback in Week 5: To put it simply, the offense looked better with the redshirt junior at quarterback. Redshirt freshman Feleipe Franks has the stronger arm of the two, but the coaches appear to be more confident in Del Rio. Head coach Jim McElwain said in post-game that the coaches will evaluate the quarterback situation moving forward, but Del Rio appears to be the better suited signal-caller, especially when the Gators can move the ball on the ground.
This is obviously a delicate issue with Franks’ confidence as a first-year starter, but McElwain must do what gives the team the best chance to win. If the play-calling can be more open with Del Rio, then he should be the team’s quarterback.
