Five O&B Debut Takeaways: Toney a dynamic playmaker

With the 2017 Orange & Blue Debut officially in the books, Inside the Gators presents five takeaways from Florida's spring game.

1. The quarterback battle isn’t over just yet, but Feleipe Franks should enter fall camp as the leader at the position – granted, he keeps it up this summer.

Although Franks saw most of his action against the second-team defense while fellow redshirt freshman Kyle Trask faced off mostly against the 1's on defense Friday, it was clear that Franks looks like the more confident, calm and collected quarterback at this juncture. After Jim McElwain has mentioned separation in the quarterback race in recent weeks, he went on to say Friday that Franks is ahead.

If Franks can continue at this rate, he should enter fall camp as the leader in the clubhouse at the quarterback position. Luke Del Rio, coming back from two shoulder surgeries, will aim to make it a battle, but Franks' potential is higher than the redshirt junior's. It also remains to be seen what 2017 signee Jake Allen could bring to the table once he arrives this summer, although he'll need some time to learn Florida's playbook and will be at somewhat of a disadvantage as compared to his three pro-style counterparts.

All bets right now are on Franks to be the favorite to start next year - that is, unless somehow Malik Zaire finds himself in a Gators uniform this offseason and makes the quarterback battle more interesting, and crowded.
