Five Spring Defensive Storylines to Follow: Figuring out the secondary

After holding two practices and then taking a week off for spring break, Florida will resume spring camp on Tuesday afternoon and continue with 13 more practices throughout the course of the next month.

Today, Inside the Gators presents five storylines that'll be worth following on the defensive side of the ball.

-- Dawson and Gardner as first-string cornerbacks: So far into their Florida careers, both senior Duke Dawson and sophomore Chauncey Gardner have seen most of their action at nickelback and safety. However, this spring the Gators have the duo starting at the outside cornerback spots to fill for the departures of draft-bound Gators Jalen Tabor and Quincy Wilson.

Jim McElwain has said that the Gators intend to play Dawson full-time at cornerback, and that's a spot where he's looked comfortable so far (albeit the full pads haven't come on just yet). Dawson, who led Florida with seven pass breakups as the starting nickelback as a junior in 2016 to go along with a forced fumble and interception, has been disruptive in the early goings of practices and has been responsible for breaking up a number of throws in drills.
