Five-star Moore talks Florida unofficial visit

Khavon Moore has emerged as one of the nation’s most prized 2018 recruits. The junior from Westside High School (Macon, Ga.) has collected offers from a long list of major programs like Florida, Kentucky, Maryland and Connecticut among numerous others. It’s been a busy recruitment for Moore, who sits at No. 11 in the Rivals150, but it doesn’t appear to be overwhelming him.

Since September, Moore has taken thirteen unofficial visits to nine schools. Florida, however, is the only out-of-state school that Moore has tripped two more than once since then.

Moore first visited Gainesville on September 3 and he liked it enough to return on January 7.

“The first visit I took we just toured the campus, I sat down with the coach a little bit and stuff like that,” said Moore. “This time I went I got to see everything. I got to see the (Tennessee) game, the atmosphere of the school. I liked it, it was pretty cool.”

Gators assistant Jordan Mincy is the lead recruiter for the 6-foot-8 198-pounder. Moore said that Mincy keeps in contact with him regularly and that he’s developed a good relationship with him and head coach Mike White.

“We’re real cool, we talk all the time,” Moore said of Mincy. “He checks up on me, stuff like that. I like him he’s good people. It’s pretty cool, he (White) told me that if I was to come there I’d play the point. They showed me all of the things I could do off the ball and with the ball.”

Other than Florida, which schools are heaviest in the mix with Moore?

“Georgia, Georgia Tech, Oklahoma, Ohio State and Maryland,” he said.

Moore, who moved to Georgia from Syracuse, NY in 2010 played on the Under Armour 16U circuit with the ATL Xpress program last year. Saturday he had 24 points, seven rebounds, four assists, four blocks and two steals in a win over Tampa Catholic at the Wally Keller Classic. Moore is a matchup nightmare in high school due to his size and skill set.

This was our first look at Moore and he was everything we’d been told and then some. He is long, athletic and has excellent court awareness and good decision making. Although he was the tallest player on the floor, he played the point for Westside and was able to get by any defender Tampa Catholic put on him to score or create a scoring opportunity for his teammates. Defensively he was good on the ball and challenged shots out on the perimeter and at the rim. Moore told us that he’s working to improve his jump shot and to get stronger.

The game was set up as matchup of two of the best talents in the southeast regardless of class between Moore and Tampa Catholic 6-foot-9 senior Kevin Knox. Unfortunately Knox injured his ankle the night before the game and was unable to play.
