Five to Follow: Secondary

[rl]
The 2016 recruiting cycle is in full swing and Florida currently sits with eight public commitments. The next big event on the calendar as far as prospects are concerned is the spring evaluation period, which runs from April 15 through the end of May. This week Inside the Gators will unveil a position-by-position look at the top pre-spring targets in our Five to Follow series.

Up today are the defensive backs.
This position is undoubtedly the most talented and deepest position for the Gators at the present time. In the last recruiting cycle the newly formed staff was able to ink two in the secondary in cornerback Chris Williamson and safety Kylan Johnson. Already in 2016 the Gatosr have two more secondary commitments in safety Spencer Perry and Rivals100 cornerback Chauncey Gardner, the No. two prospect in the nation at his position.
With Brian Poole on his way out and the very likely possibility of Vernon Hargreaves III heading to the NFL after the season, moving forward look for the Gators to take one or two defensive backs more at the most
Here are five pre-spring top tier prospects to watch at the position.
Inside the Gators' pre-spring top five lists are based on national ranking and of course whether or not Florida is showing interest at this time. One player having an offer this early doesn't necessarily mean he will be a higher priority throughout the process. Therefore it doesn't mean he will be rated higher on our list. What you see here is solely the opinion of the staff of Inside the Gators and does not represent the opinion of the University of Florida or anyone associated with the Gator program.
Carlos Becker | Kissimmee (Fla.) Osceola | 6-foot-3, 185-pounds
What was Said: "They just really wanted to let me know they like me and stuff like that," said Becker of the Florida coaches. "I really like the coaches a lot and they are definitely guys I can play for. I like a lot of stuff about Florida."

Competition: Florida State, Ohio State and others
Watch video highlights of Becker by clicking here.Click The Skinny: Becker doesn't seem to be in any hurry to make a decision at this time and is using the spring to see what schools come in before narrowing down his list of options. The Gators are high on the long, rangy cover corner and hosted him on campus earlier this spring. Florida State also seems to be a major player here as well and Ohio State is the team he says recruiting him the hardest. Here to view this Link.
Chad Clay | Suwanee (Ga.) Peachtree Ridge | 5-foot-11, 169-pounds
What was Said: "I'll probably commit after spring ball. It'll probably be May or June, right before the summer kicks off."

Competition: Georgia, Georgia Tech and Ohio State
Watch video highlights of Clay by clicking here.Click The Skinny: The Gators were sitting in third place behind the instate duo of Georgia and Georgia Tech (in that order), but have made a move upward due mostly to the strong bond Clay has with Florida defensive backs coach Kirk Callahan. He has visited Gainesville a few times this spring. Perhaps if the Gators continue to stay after Clay they can make up more ground before a late spring or early summer commitment. Here to view this Link.
Randrecous Davis | Atlanta (Ga.) Mays | 5-foot-11, 180-pounds
What was Said: "I like Florida, it's sunny down there and they have good weather," said Davis. "They are close to home and one of the top teams in the SEC. They have a lot of championships so that is a place I could see myself going too."

Competition: Georgia, Kentucky, Louisville and others
Watch video highlights of Davis by clicking here.Click The Skinny: The Gators are the most recent program to offer this four-star athlete. He plays both offensive and defense for his high school and could also do the same at the next level as well depending on the scheme. Florida is really Davis's first big offer, but other big fish are also likely to pull the trigger and offer this spring as well. Here to view this Link.
Trayvon Mullen | Coconut Creek (Fla.) | 6-foot-2, 156-pounds
What was Said: "This visit helped. Florida is a good school. I like them, they are a school I am considering. I like Florida I could see myself going there."
Related: Mullen stays coy
Competition: Florida State, LSU, Ohio State and others
Watch video highlights of Mullen by clicking here.Click The Skinny: Mullen released a top 10 recently with Florida State on top followed by LSU. Yes, the Gators have some ground to make up on other schools at this time, but Florida is making Mullen and his four-star teammate Binjimen Victor priorities thus far. Is that going to be enough? Perhaps if the Gators continue their effort they can continue to rise up his leaderboard as he doesn't plan to make a decision until much later in the process. Here to view this Link.
K.J. Sails | Gibsonton (Fla.) East Bay | 5-foot-11, 163-pounds
What was Said: "Coach Cal [Kirk Callahan] is great he was at UCF and was recruiting me there as a sophomore. We have a great relationship and he said he is going to be recruiting me and coming down in the spring."

Competition: Kentucky, Wisconsin and others
Watch video highlights of Sails clicking here.Click The Skinny: After wining MVP awards at the Rivals camp in Orlando earlier this spring Sails has really seen his recruitment explode. He is very open to schools at this time being that his recruitment is still in its early stages. Sails is a guy that has gotten better and better as the spring has gone on in the 7-on-7 circuit. Florida will likely be one of many schools to check him out this spring. Here to view this Link.
