Florida commit Heggie works on two uncommitted linemen over the weekend

Mount Dora (Fla.) three-star center Brett Heggie has been to the University of Florida many times in the past. This past weekend Heggie was on campus once again, only this time it was for an official visit.

“It was a great time nothing really new other than spending a lot more time with the current players,” stated Heggie. “That was really the only thing I haven’t gotten to do a lot of - was be around the players. I also got to hang out with the coaches and some of those guys that were visiting that are still undecided on where they want to go.”

Heggie has been committed to the Gators since the summer and has been solid in his pledge. Therefore, it should come as no surprise to hear about him doing some recruiting on the Gators behalf over the weekend.

“I told them to come on board and join something special,” said Heggie. “I met Landon [Dickerson] over the summer at The Opening and then we were on the same team for the Under Armour game. We got pretty close, so we have a relationship and we planned to come down together for the visit. We hung out and I told him everything he needs to hear. I was after Landon and John Simpson too. I think they both are going to take some visits, but Florida got a good push for both of them on the visit.”

A large part of Heggie’s visit was spent talking with Florida offensive line coach Mike Summers. The two have built a strong bond over the last several months, so Heggie was happy to see him once again.

“I have a great relationship with Coach Summers and it was nice being able to sit down and spend as much time with him as I wanted to. Over the last two days we talked about the future and it’s always nice coming back down and seeing all those guys.”

In fact during his talks with the coaching staff the 6-foot-4, 310-pounder was told how excited they are to have him a part of the team's future.

“They want me to get in and learn the playbook and try to contribute for them early. I am at a good weight of around 310-pounds right now and I lift everyday and run too. I just want to come in and be in shape. I don’t want to be behind. I just try to get bigger, faster, stronger. The coaches talked about getting me in for Summer A classes, so we will see.”

While in Gainesville, Heggie also spent a lot of time with player hosts T.J. McCoy and Tyler Jordan. According to Heggie the two current lineman talked with him about their experiences under Jim McElwain this past season.

“I actually know T.J. from high school,” said Heggie. “We have known each other for a while, but Tyler is a guy I didn’t know much besides talking with him on social media. It was great to be around both of those guys and I am excited to be teammates with them. They told me all about what life is like as a Gator and what all I need to know coming in. They shared some experiences so it was good to have that insight.”
