Florida Gators Rivals250 Defensive Targets

On Tuesday Rivals released the updated Rivals250 ranking for the Class of 2017. Not only are seven of Florida's 14 public commitments in the class included in the ranking, but many of the top prospects in the nation are still considering the Gators as well.

The following are the Rivals250 prospects on defense who are mentioning the Gators.

DEFENSIVE LINE:

22) Jarez Parks: This five-star defender recently named a top eight, but many feel Alabama, Florida, and Florida State lead the pack. Parks has taken a very sold paced approach to recruiting thus far. In this end this wouldn’t shock to come down to Alabama and Florida.

73) LaBryan Ray: This big riser in the latest Rivals250 visited Gainesville for the first time at the end of July. He plans to return to Florida for an official visit in the fall, but Alabama seems to have the edge here.

88) Zachary Carter: This four-star has been very solid to the Gators since pulling the trigger over the summer. Expect him to be a regular in Gainesville this season.

94) Aubrey Solomon: This four-star just backed off a summertime commitment to Michigan. At one point early on in his recruitment Solomon visited Gainesville and left with Florida on top. It’s been months since that visit and schools like Alabama and Georgia seem to be in a much better place now. Florida’s only chance seems to become more of a player would be to get an official visit.

113) Fred Hansard: This four-star has mentioned making a commitment sometime soon, but has yet to iron out a solid date. What we have heard is that Hansard is planning to make a commitment video with Bleacher Report, which should be out in the next week or so. Florida and Rutgers are the likely finalist here.

LINEBACKER:

117) K.J. Britt: The Gators seemed to be much more of a player for this four-star back in the spring after a visit to Gainesville. Since then he hasn’t made a return visit, but continues to see Auburn and Georgia.

DEFENSIVE BACK:

17) Shaun Wade: The Gators have been aggressively pursuing this five-star in hopes of flipping him from Ohio State. Head coach Jim McElwain has also been involved lately in Wade’s recruitment. He plans to visit Ohio State, Notre Dame, Michigan, Florida and possibly Alabama and USC this fall.

53) Devon Hunter: The Gators have gotten this four-star on campus a few times since the arrival of new defensive backs coach Torrian Gray. Their relationship dates back to Gray’s time at Virginia Tech. At this time it seems Florida, North Carolina, and Virginia Tech have the main schools in contention here. He doesn’t plan to make a commitment until around December.

124) Elijah Blades: This Florida commit rose 111 spots in the latest Rivals100 ranking. He maintains his commitment to the Gators is strong but plans on taking all five official visits in the fall. At this time he says Utah, Florida, Illinois, USC, and possibly Nebraska will be his visits this coming fall.

130) Marco Wilson: After tearing his ACL last year, Wilson is primed for a breakout senior season. The four-star committed to the Gators last month on his father's radio show and likely will not visit any other schools down the road.

178) Ambry Thomas: He visited Florida’s campus for the first time earlier this summer and was blown away with what he saw. He’s been pegged as a heavy lean to Michigan for some time now, but it appears the Gators have impressed him immensely. He says he will return to Florida this fall for an official visit.

192) Brad Stewart: This newly minted Rivals250 member was planning to make a commitment on August 17th, but later backed off that plan. He is unsure of his timeline going forward, but the Gators seem to be the team to beat.

213) Christopher Henderson: Though Henderson has been committed to Miami for a while, he continues to consistently visit the University of Florida. He plans to be in town for a few games this fall and also likely will use an official visit. At this time it seems very possible for the Gators to pull off the flip.

226) Markquese Bell: Florida likes Bell as a defensive back and are high on his torso length. He recently named a top seven that included the Gators and said he will take his official visit to Gainesville when the Gators host LSU in October.
