Though he is committed to LSU, Baton Rouge (La.) Southern Lab 2019 Rivals100 offensive lineman Kardell Thomas made the trek over to Gainesville this weekend for his first visit to Florida.

“Florida was a great experience for my first time here,” stated Thomas. “Coach Mac [Jim McElwain], he's a great coach. You know, I look good in the the blue and orange. It was a experience and I'll be back for the LSU game."

The reason Florida is in the race for the man-mountain LSU commit in the first place is his relationship with the new Gators offensive line coach Brad Davis, who got his start as an assistant coach at Thomas' high school.

“It was Coach Brad Davis. Him being from where me and my parents are from. And him knowing me and my daddy is from. I had to check him out. Everybody around him likes him. He's a great coach so I had to come be a part of that.

“He told me when he first saw me that he was coming to get me. Every since then I liked the attitude he had towards me.”

Go back and research the history and it isn't easy to pull a prospect out of Louisana that LSU covets, much less one that is already committed to the Tigers.

When asked if Florida has a chance to sway him, Thomas replied, 'Oh yes Sir. Brad Davis is the reason why I'm here. He came at me straight up like I want you to come play for me from the jump.”

Thought he likes Davis, Thomas isn't shying away from the fact that he is committed.

“I'm still an LSU commit. Purple and gold.”
